For people looking for natural Fibromyalgia pain relief that can be used in conjunction with any prescribed medications could look no further than fibromyalgia and Reiki. But what exactly are the healing benefits of Reiki and what can it do to help someone with fibromyalgia?”

Apparently the most common benefits of Reiki for fibromyalgia sufferers is that it alleviates the major symptoms of the disorder, specifically since Reiki is a highly effective method for treating the symptomatic conditions commonly found among fibromyalgia sufferers – pain and fatigue.

The practice of Reiki promotes holistic healing among its patients and a Reiki therapist using specific hand patterns and positions will normally carry out process, although you can be taught to do this yourself. The therapist moves his hands over a patient – just a few inches above the body - over various body parts to feel for energy blockages.

Then they will lay their hands on the patient in a set fashion, leaving them in place for between 3 – 20 minutes, depending on the blockages present. The areas they concentrate on are the chest, back, abdomen, head and joints in a choreographed healing fashion channeling life-force energy over the patient. Then

For fibromyalgia patients, the process involves having the fully clothed patient either sit on a reclined chair or lie down to make them feel relaxed. Session last around 60 – 90 minutes and with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia long term treatment will probably be recommended.

Reiki originated from Asia, and simply means ‘universal life force energy’. It was practiced by Buddhist monks for over a thousand years and was passed on through generations.

Reiki practitioners believe that it is a powerful healing process using natural universal energy that keeps us alive, and is the energy responsible for the body’s ability to heal itself. It is this energy that flows through the hands of what is called the ‘Reiki channel’ in a concentrated and powerful energy form on to the body to correct the energy imbalance of the patient.

Although Reiki is a natural healing form – a therapeutic process - and is not meant as a cure for diseases, it complements and can also work as a support mechanism to conventional disease treatment in cases where medication is generally required.

Specifically, Reiki is not a cure for any condition, even fibromyalgia, however, its healing benefits enhances over-all health and general well being and can relieve patients of fatigue and pain-related symptoms.

Realistically Reiki is not for everybody, however it may be worth a try as for those who do find it beneficial the results can be quite significant.

Fibromyalgia affects millions of people in the United States, mostly women, regardless of age or social status, and no firm conclusions have been established pinpointing the cause of the disorder.

However, thousands of fibromyalgia sufferers have benefited from Reiki and although it is not a proven cure-all for fibromyalgia, it can provide fibromyalgia patients with the hope that there are alternative and holistic solutions to treating this disease. Be it fibromyalgia and Reiki or conventional treatment, the final decision rests with the patient, whichever they find suitable and comfortable for them.

If you are suffering from fibromyalgia, then you are one of over six million Americans who suffer from the disabling condition. Fibromyalgia is known to be the second leading arthritis-related condition according to the Arthritis Foundation, affecting about five percent of the total population with women four times more likely to develop the condition as compared to men. Many treatments are available to help people cope with its debilitating symptoms, and MSM fibromyalgia treatment appears to be one of the safest options as well as one that may be able to offer the most relief.

The substance MSM, or methyl-sulfonyl-methane is a naturally occurring compound with a sulfur base that is found in human diets. MSM is an odorless, water soluble and bitter white crystalline powder if seen in its purified state.

The substance occurs naturally in the environment and in the body by way of the food that we eat. It is a normal component of vegetables, meat and seafood. It can also be found in coffee, tea and chocolate. This substance is inert and non-toxic. It is even rated as one of the least toxic of substances in biology.

MSM is believed to have non-inflammatory effects in the body, the reason why it is being used for arthritic relief as well as for relief of some symptoms of fibromyalgia. It also allows people to better control pain, which makes fibromyalgia such a disabling disorder. Helping to control the pain can help sufferers being able to better cope up with the condition and the many other side effects that come with it.

MSM comes in seven forms, capsule or tablet form like a vitamin, powder, flakes or crystals, which you dissolve in liquid or as a cream or gel that you can rub into the effected area. The only real difference between these forms of MSM are the ways you get the MSM into your body, other than that the MSM is the same.

MSM doesn’t require a prescription, although it is always a good idea to keep your doctor appraised of what supplements you are taking, especially if you are pregnant. It may take up to a couple of months to see any improvement.

Fibromyalgia is a really troublesome condition to have. It effects the soft tissues of the body - the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which causes considerable pain after some time.

Its variety of symptoms include chronic fatigue which can last all day, a persistent burning feeling, soreness of the muscles and joints, pain and stiffness all over the body and frequent headaches.

Fibromyalgia can even cause irritable bowel, insomnia, anxiety and depression as a result of prolonged experience with the disorder. Different people may feel different levels of the symptoms at any one time, but the recurring feeling of pain and fatigue is always generally present.

The actual cause of fibromyalgia has not yet been found as yet. But doctors and researchers have been able to look through the many possible causes. Some believe that it might be related to arthritis. There are doctors who believe that it may be a result of some hormonal imbalance in the body. There are others who believe that it may be the result of the poor functioning of the thyroid gland. Genetics may play a part too, with sufferers more likely to be diagnosed if a close relative has the condition.

Fibromyalgia can also be very difficult to diagnose because many of the symptoms that it exhibits mimic those of other diseases. A diagnostic criteria has been drawn up to help doctor determine whether a patient has fibromyalgia or another unrelated condition.

MSM fibromyalgia treatment is not known to cure people of this disabling condition. Instead, it helps in treating the usually painful symptoms associated with the condition. The compound MSM is known to have pain reducing properties as well as help in increasing blood supply in the body that provides the relief to fibromyalgia sufferers. MSM treatments tend to be effective for as long as you are taking them and there is plenty of anecdotal evidence showing that it can provide real fibromyalgia pain relief.

As the title indicates, fibromyalgia is a very complicated condition diagnosing fibromyalgia can be a long drawn out affair.

The problem with fibromyalgia is that it has a number of different symptoms, which can appear to be an indication of other conditions. At one point in the history of fibromyalgia it was considered by most doctors as a neurotic ailment. Fortunately, they now know better. Recent studies and researches have concluded that fibromyalgia is related to rheumatic conditions, although the exact cause is not known.

When trying to diagnose fibromyalgia there are certain criteria that a doctor will look for to differentiate fibromyalgia from other diseases.

The most common indication of fibromyalgia is widespread musculoskeletal pain that has been present for 3 months or more. The time period is important. The pain must not be related to any other condition.

Accompanying the pain there are 18 ‘tender points’ on the body that fibromyalgia sufferers will react too more sensitively than others do. These tender points are found on the back of your head, upper back and neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees.

The test is to place 4kg of pressure on these points and gauge the reaction. 4kg of pressure is just enough to make the skin change color when pressing with a finger. Usually in order to confirm fibromyalgia 11 out of the 18 tender points must be problematic. The pain is also accompanied by stiffness along with other symptoms.

Other common symptoms of fibromyalgia are fatigue and sleep disorders. It has been observed that people with fibromyalgia exhibit abnormal tiredness even if they’ve had enough sleep during the night, not a common occurrence for fibromyalgia sufferers.

Sleep disorders are very common among fibromyalgia sufferers; with patients brain activity while sleeping resembling waking brain waves. This means that deep sleep is not achieved, a time when most of the healing and rejuvenation happens in the body, and sufferers wake up feeling fatigued.

Fibromyalgia patients also often fall asleep okay only to wake up in the middle of the night and be unable to go back to sleep

Regular severe headaches are another symptom of fibromyalgia with up to 40% of patients reporting them. Usually they are tension headaches that occur due to back and neck pain. Facial pain can also occur, along with the condition called temporomandibular joint dysfunction, which targets the jaw joints, and surrounding muscles, are common in people with fibromyalgia.

Irritable bowel syndrome can accompany fibromyalgia along with heightened sensitivity in the areas of sight, smell and touch.

Other common signs and symptoms include depression; also felt are numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet. People with fibromyalgia also tend to have difficulty concentrating.

It is also normal to experience mood changes, chest pains, dry eyes, skin and mouth, painful menstrual periods, dizziness for people with fibromyalgia. People also feel anxious of their condition and their surroundings.

With all of the above symptoms you can see why it may be hard to diagnose fibromyalgia. Before visiting your doctor keep a record of all the symptoms you’re experiencing in a journal so that you can provide them with a detailed history to smooth out the process and reduce the diagnostic time.

Is it true that if you are diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome follows? Well, these two conditions are classed as separate disorders but there does appear to be an overlap between the two.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder, with the pain symptom being widespread musculoskeletal pain and the presence of multiple tender points. There are 18 specific tender points and doctors will usually look for the patient to express pain for at least 11 when pressed using mild force. They can be found in the areas near the neck, spine, shoulders, hips, knees and elbows. Fibromyalgia patients also exhibit a myriad of other symptoms, with the most common being sleep disorders, morning stiffness, fatigue, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, depression and anxiety.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is also a chronic disorder, which is also known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). People with CFS feel a persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest. They will feel tired immediately even if they were just doing ordinary and normal activities. They can feel exhausted for no apparent reason and be housebound or bed-bound for long periods of time.

Studies have indicated that about 80 percent of patients diagnosed with CFS were observed to have an overlapping diagnosis of fibromyalgia. There is some speculation that because of this close relationship fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are actually part of a wider spectrum of disorders and therefore are linked.

When treating fibromyalgia, doctors and experts recommend having a holistic approach. Treatment programs for fibromyalgia are not piece-meal processes. Everyone involved should be an active player. The patients, the doctors, the therapists, and the family and friends should play active roles in the treatment programs. The support group of patients with fibromyalgia should be as strong as their will power will need to be to recover from their condition.

There are a number of treatment programs that patients can adopt that reduce symptoms. For one, low impact aerobic exercises have shown to have positive impacts, with fibromyalgia patients reporting reduced pain and improved sleep. These exercises include swimming and walking both of which targets the muscles making them more fit which reduces muscle pain and tenderness. Exercise also releases certain hormones and chemicals that can block pain receptors and boost the immune system.

Other forms of treatment for fibromyalgia include heat and massage therapies. These help to increase the blood flow to the muscles to encourage healing. Medications are also available and include painkillers, antidepressant medications for elevating moods, sleep drugs and muscle relaxants. However the best results seem to come from patients who use a combination of medication, exercise, diet modifications, physical therapy, and meditation and relaxation in their fibromyalgia treatment programs.

Treating chronic fatigue syndrome uses similar methods to the fibromyalgia treatments. It has been observed that patients with the condition are also more likely to improve their condition if they use an integrated treatment approach in their programs.

As symptoms and severity can vary so much from patient to patient, doctors will normally try to address the worse symptoms first. There are medicines that can target sleeping problems, cognitive difficulties and pain, however CFS patients are often sensitive to these so dosages are normally lowered.

Herbal treatments are an option and although your doctor won’t prescribe these, anecdotally CFS sufferers have experienced significant improvements.

You should be aware however, that herbal treatments can inter-react with other medicines and you should seek medical advice before taking anything.

Amending your diet to remove caffeine, refined sugar, and alcohol is also recommended as many CFS sufferers report sensitivities to these products. If you smoke you should try and give up, if not for your lungs, but because it can make symptoms worse.

Some patients have found relief through alternative treatments like gentle massage, acupuncture and mediation. If you wish to try an alternative treatment method try to find a practitioner who has experience of CFS.

Just like fibromyalgia, medications alone don’t normally succeed in alleviating all the CFS symptoms. By combining conventional medicines with treatments like meditation or relaxation, stress management, emotional and mental health counseling, and sleep management both fibromyalgia chronic fatigue syndrome can be better managed.

Fibromyalgia can be a pretty overwhelming condition. The wide spread muscular pain can make ordinary tasks like getting up and into the shower or preparing a meal and doing the washing up a real struggle. The experience may be a physical one, but fibromyalgia can also take its toll on the emotional and psychological aspects of life. This is where attending a fibromyalgia support group can be really useful.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that is experienced by many people nowadays, characterized by muscle and joint pain and accompanied by other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, migraines, trouble concentrating (brain fog) and even irritable bowel syndrome. This condition has been around for a long time, but it was only in 1990 that the medical community officially recognized it.

Currently there is no cure for fibromyalgia or even a FDA approved treatment specifically designed to tackle it. Once a diagnosis is given the approach by most doctors is to seek medication that combats the pain and relieves symptoms rather than trying to cure it. This is why it becomes important to seek additional help and information elsewhere.

Joining a Fibromyalgia Support Group

Considering the debilitating effect fibromyalgia can have on an individual, its not surprising that it can lead to other health issues. Being constantly in pain and feeling fatigued and sleep deprived can lead to depression and anxiety. Because even the smallest tasks can become huge mountains to climb it can often feel easier to stay at home and give up outside interests and work.

Cutting yourself off from the rest of the world is never a good idea so joining a fibromyalgia support group can be a good option for you to regain a foothold back into the real world.

Fibromyalgia support groups are often provided by private organizations. You will also most likely find one in your community organized by groups of people also suffering with fibromyalgia.

You can ask local health clinics for referrals or check online for forums and community sites that provide support to fibromyalgia sufferers if you don’t feel up to getting out and about. It’s possible to form some really strong friendships online, where location and nationality don’t matter.

A fibromyalgia support group of any kind can be a big help. Belonging to a group allows you to communicate with others going through the same experiences as you. It gives you the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas on treatments or even to let off a little steam on the challenging days. Not everything has to be about fibromyalgia either. Online forums usually have sections for other types of discussions, whether it’s hobbies, jokes or just general chat.

You’ll be amazed at what you learn from belonging to a support group. The other people are going through the same thing as you and will all have tried different approaches to treating their symptoms. There’s a great opportunity to share tips on pain management options that worked and also discover the ones that haven’t been as successful. If you are feeling depressed or anxious, this kind of community atmosphere can provide hope and encouragement and you’ll find that most people are really helpful and sympathetic.

Its great to read about or share in the success stories of those who effectively manage or overcome their symptoms and can act as a real inspiration. You can see how they worked their way out of the pain by improving on the other aspects of their mind and body.

One great way to cope with what this condition is doing to your life is to join a fibromyalgia support group to help you cope and manage this situation. This is can be really effective way to helping you regain the life that you deserve.

If you have ever felt biting pain in your joints or muscles, or if you have ever felt tired for no reason at all, then you may have disabling and still largely misunderstood, fibromyalgia. Composed of a large collection of signs and symptoms, fibromyalgia affects mainly women between the ages of 20 and 55, with an average age of 45. The joint and muscle pains that come with fibromyalgia can make day to day life very difficult, so more and more people are looking for ways to cure fibromyalgia.

Currently the cause of fibromyalgia is unclear, although there are a number of theories, which go some way to explaining the condition:

An imbalance in pain regulation chemicals in the brain or spinal cord could be the causes of the heightened pain sensitivity, giving rise to widespread muscle pain.

An imbalance in the brains mood-regulating chemicals can lead to low pain threshold, disturbed sleep and fatigue. This can drain you of energy, make you feel tired all the time and causes muscles and joints to become sensitive and painful.

Reduced levels of HGH (human growth hormone). This is controlled by the pituitary gland and insufficient amounts can lead to tiredness, mood swings, lack of concentration, memory loss and low resistance to pain.

Sleep disorders used to be thought of as a symptom, but now many believe they may be a cause. Most fibromyalgia sufferers have disturbed sleep and fail to achieve the deep sleep required by the body to rejuvenate. This leads to daytime fatigue, mood swings, trouble concentration and a low pain threshold.

Most sufferers have found their symptoms start after an accident or physical trauma of some kind that may contribute to imbalances in body chemicals that lead to fibromyalgia symptoms.

As researchers continue to study fibromyalgia, other theories are being investigated.

Aside from pains in the joints, those suffering from fibromyalgia have extremely sensitive skin. They can feel tingling beneath the surface of the skin, muscle spasms and sometimes pain in their nerves.

In addition to this, fibromyalgia can result in sleep disturbances and slowed thinking processes, where those affected have a hard time remembering things, doing tasks and understanding simple ideas. Other characteristics of fibromyalgia may include frequent headaches, dermatological disorders and irritable bowel syndrome.

Fibromyalgia is made up of these and many other symptoms. If you think that you are suffering from fibromyalgia, then you need to consult with your doctor first. However, when the diagnosis is finally made, you do not need to overload on medication.

Keep reading for ways to naturally overcome fibromyalgia symptoms and to sign up for the free Fibromyalgia newsletter.

You can use these tips to aid your recovery and relieve the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

Change your diet. While there is no one diet that has been proven to cure fibromyalgia, research has shown that there are some foods that patients do better on than other. Aim to have a diet that is low in fat, low in salt, avoids sugar or processed foods and is full of fresh vegetables, fiber and low fat protein like chicken, turkey or fish. Also avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea or sodas and alcohol. Drink lots of water throughout the day.

Improve sleep. Although fibromyalgia can often cause sleep disturbances there are some steps you can take to improve your nights rest. Spend half an hour exercising in the late afternoon followed by a light dinner. Establish going to bed and getting up times and try and stick to these to create a routine for your body. Eliminate as much light and sound as possible from your bedroom so that nothing can disturb you.

Exercise. Exercise can not only help improve sleep, but it can have beneficial effects on reducing pain and stiffness. Start slowly with non-impact exercises like walking, swimming and yoga for a few minutes and build up over time to 30 minutes a day. It’s important to establish an exercise routine, as regular exercise with help to strengthen muscles by increasing the blood flow to them. Seek medical advice if you are unsure of where or how to start.

These are only a few suggestions on ways to naturally cure fibromyalgia. For more tips on how to relieve your fibromyalgia symptoms, do as much research as you can on fibromyalgia, and ask your doctor about alternatives to medication.

There are 18 specific tender points and doctors will usually look for the patient to express pain for at least 11 when pressed using mild force. , They can be found in the areas near the neck, spine, shoulders, hips, knees and elbows.

One of the hardest things in diagnosing fibromyalgia is that symptoms are so diverse and the fact that doctors still have no idea what causes the condition. So, what are the signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia and how do you go about getting a diagnosis?

Before discussing what brings about fibromyalgia and what constitutes its diagnosis, let us first look into what fibromyalgia is.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that is characterized by widespread pain that is across the whole body. People with fibromyalgia also often have sleep disturbances, which leave them feeling tired and fatigued all the time. They are sensitive to pain and may even have emotional problems such as mood changes and depression.

What causes fibromyalgia?

Some believe that fibromyalgia is caused by problems in the way the brain sends out pain signals to the various receptors in the body, resulting in the brain becoming more sensitive to pain.

Other experts in the field say that fibromyalgia is caused by sleep disorders. So rather than being a symptom of the condition, sleep dysfunction could actually be the cause. This theory comes from the fact that people with fibromyalgia often have disturbed sleep with several moments of brain activity that are similar to the those when the brain is awake.

There are also some doctors who believe that injury and trauma may be the root of the problem. This trauma can be found in the upper spinal region of the body, which may in turn affect the central nervous system. Others point out to the possibility of the problem being caused by a viral or bacterial infection. This may affect the nervous system, which controls involuntary movements in the body.

Another area that is being looked into is the effect brought on by the changes in the metabolism of the muscles. Decrease in the blood flow in muscles may result to the sapping out of strength as well as fatigue and muscle pains.

Diagnosing fibromyalgia

In diagnosing fibromyalgia, several tests are often conducted to ensure a correct diagnosis and to rule out other potential illness possibilities. This is because no single test can give you an accurate diagnosis of fibromyalgia. In fact people who are suspected to suffer from this problem usually have to go through several blood tests and x-rays. And oftentimes, these tests will come out normal.

Still, these tests are needed to rule out other problems with similar symptoms, such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, hyperthyroidism, muscle diseases, cancer or rheumatoid arthritis among others. Because of this, the American College of Rheumatology has come up with several guidelines for the classification and diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

According to the guidelines, fibromyalgia may be diagnosed if the pain that is experienced by the patient is felt in various parts of the body for a period of at least three months.

There should also be a minimum of 11 of the 18 stipulated fibromyalgia ‘tender points’ on the body that are sensitive and tender when applied mild pressure (4kg). These tender points can be found in the following places:

Knees
Backs of the upper leg
Above the buttocks
Elbows
Front and back of the neck
Upper Chest
Shoulders

4kg of pressure is similar to the pressure needed to make the skin change color when you press on it with your finger.

If you are displaying any of the above signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia then make an appointment to see your doctor. Be prepared for your doctors to look into your medical history as to check on the tenderness and sensitivity to pain felt across several points on the body including the extremities and of course the upper body and neck.

Don’t be confused when you hear the term fibromyalgia chronic fatigue syndrome, as this does not describe an actual medical condition. What we have are two different conditions: fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

These two medical conditions have baffled the medical community for quite a while now. It took them years to establish and release official guidelines for the two syndrome’s diagnosis.

Both FMS and CFS are non-fatal conditions. And because the conditions do not damage any body tissue, no permanent physical effects have been observed from people who had the syndromes. Nevertheless, the damaging effects might not be present in the body itself, but rather the conditions can greatly affect relationships in families, with friends and employers.

Most evident and most immediately affected by these syndromes are job performance and family relations. This is why it is very important that patients have a solid support group to help them cope with the hardships they will have to face as they treat their conditions.

Fibromyalgia syndrome or FMS is usually categorized by the pain patients feel in their muscles, particularly in the areas like the back of your head, neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees. The pain usually needs to be consistent for at least three months before fibromyalgia is considered as the cause.

Also there other symptoms that accompany the disorder which helps doctors distinguish the syndrome from CFS or from other related disorders or diseases for that matter. Aside from the chronic pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, feelings of extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, depression and anxiety are some of the other symptoms of FMS.

While people diagnosed with CFS have symptoms like muscle weakness, digestive disturbances, loss of brain function, hypersensitivity, orthostatic intolerance (the body has an abnormal reactions when standing up), depression, immune system weakness, and even cardiac and respiratory problems. But these are just accompanying conditions and the most prominent symptom of a person with CFS is fatigue. Fatigue can vary from mild to severe; however, these instances of feeling exhaustion can occur in unexpected situations.

For example, patients that have possible CFS will feel exhausted quickly even if he/she is doing very simple, normal activities. Some doctors or experts insists that before the patient is officially diagnosed as having CFS, the condition of fatigue and tiredness be present for a period of six consecutive months. Also, the fatigue felt by patients should not be associated with other medical conditions or disease like cancer.

However, although these are two separate conditions there appears to be quite a significant overlap between them and it is thought they may make up part of a wider spectrum of similar conditions. Your diagnosis of either fibromyalgia or CFS may depend on which symptom presents itself first.

They are both similar conditions to arthritis where the symptoms can come and go and also vary in severity.

Many of the treatment options for both fibromyalgia chronic fatigue syndrome are similar, which stands to reason given the symptoms are also very similar.

Gastric reflux and Fibromyalgia are two difficult conditions. On their own they cause so much pain and trouble — together they make matters worse when it comes to disrupting your life. So, it is a good strategy to try and understand the link between gastric reflux and fibromyalgia, so you can find ways to ease the symptoms.

Fibromyalgia leads to aching joints and muscles and can make normal activities like getting out of bed or taking a bath a struggle. This pain is also accompanied by fatigue, headaches and sleep disturbances, which makes waking up in the middle of the night and struggling to go back to sleep a fairly frequent event.

Gastric Reflux and Fibromyalgia: A Link?

Sufferers of Fibromyalgia appear to also be at a higher risk of developing certain other conditions and GERD (Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux Disease) is one of them. GERD is a particularly severe form of acid reflux.

GERD is caused by acid produced in the stomach, along with food particles, refluxing into the esophagus. This can lead to a number of symptoms including burning feeling in the throat, chest pains, nausea and a bad taste in your mouth. The worst part is that gastric reflux often happens at night, waking you up and making you feel more tired and frustrated the next day. If GERD goes untreated it can cause health problems and even severe complications.

Around 60% of all Fibromyalgia sufferers also suffer with GERD, however the reason for this is not clear. The problem with GERD is that it can impact on your already interrupted sleep cycle, as the symptoms are often worse when lying down.

It is best to do everything you can to avoid gastric reflux once you already have fibromyalgia to contend with. Adding further interruptions to your sleep patterns will lead to worsening fibromyalgia symptoms, especially daytime fatigue.

Here are some of the techniques you can use to alleviate the effects of gastric reflux.

Consulting a physician is imperative once you feel bouts of heartburn. The doctor can properly identify if it is gastric reflux you’re going through, and if you have a problem with acidity. The physician can also prescribe medications so that you can alleviate the pains of gastric reflux. This is also a good chance to ask about over-the-counter drugs.

It is highly recommended that you change your position when you sleep. It is best to keep your head in an elevated position. This will allow gravity to help keep the acids in your stomach from splashing back into the esophagus or the throat. Adopting an elevated position can be a good way to ensure that your sleep is not effected by gastric reflux symptoms.

Be sure also to avoid certain kinds of food. Spicy foods and alcohol can worsen the acid in your stomach. These elements can really aggravate the acids in your stomach. It is also helpful to consider some herbal remedies. These could help in maintaining a good balance in your system.

Gastric reflux and fibromyalgia do seem to be linked, although the reason for this link is unclear. However, there are steps you can take to address the gastric reflux to remove that complication from your life.
